  The longest transocean bridge in the world ---Hang Zhou Bay Bridge will open to traffic on May Day. The news was released at the press conference held by Ningbo Party Committee and Ningbo Municipal Governemnt at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Over 100 jurnalists from USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, HK, Beijing, Shanghai, Guang Zhou etc took part in the conference. Vice Secretary of Ningbo Party Committee Tang Yijun introduced the history and culture of Ningbo and present economic and social developemnt.He said Ningbo had long history and splendid culture. It was a vigour and charming city and a international port, names as oriental large port, commercial city, civilization city, ecological city etc. With the completion of Hang Zhou Bay bridge,the distance between Ningbo and Shanghai will be shortened. Therefore, it would bring new opportunity for developing Ningbo economy. Hang Zhou Bay Bridge starts at Hai Yan of Jia Xing and ends at Ci Xi of Ningbo. It has the length of 36km. The bridge has 6 lanes in two wys. Design speed is 100 km per hour. The operation life is 100 years. The construction of the bridge began in 2003 and run south and north in June, 2007.
