In March, consumption of basic food also meets “the spring season”. According to the latest data released by municipal trade bureau, varied food on the market is sufficient while prices of the food dropped greatly last month in Ningbo. In March, pork sold in the city amounted to 3340 tons, up by 13.3% over February. The wholesale price of pork is 25.65 yuan per kg, dropping by 1.04% over the previous month. Sales of poultry and eggs increase by 10% over the previous month and the prices decrease by about 6%. The warming weather is best for the growth of vegetables. Since March, large quantity of vegetables planted in and outside Ningbo has been supplied to market. More than 40,000 tons of vegetables are sold at the municipal vegetable wholesale market, which is 28.6% higher than that of February. At the same time, average price of vegetables dropped by 13.6%. Consumption of bean products increases as well. The sales volume of bean sprout reached 2664 tons last month, 82% higher than that of February. Owing to the rise in material costs, the prices of bean products and bean sprout both increased more or less, namely 7.8% and 4.3% respectively. However, sales volume of aquatic products in March dropped by 28.8%, largely due to the lack of holiday consumption factors. Because of the same reason, sales of high grade fish also dropped while that of middle grade fish grew a little. As a result, prices of aquatic products dropped by 15.8% in March.
