The State Administration of Quality Supervision has officially approved listing Ningbo as a port for imported fruits., which marks Ningbo port has become one of its kind after Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao and Nanjing.
According to state regulations, imported fruits must be put into strict inspection and quarantine before their entry into markets in order to prevent the entry of harmful biological and toxic substances with fruits. With the construction of inspection laboratory over the past few years, Ningbo port is conditioned to carry out inspection and quarantine of fruits.
It is reported imported fruits in Ningbo have the annual growth of 15 percent to 20 percent. After Ningbo becomes the nominated port for imported fruit, the cost of transportation of a lot of imported fruits will be greatly saved and the difference between Ningbo local fruits and imported fruits will be narrowed. In addition, almost 90 per cent of imported fruits in Zhejiang Province came from Guangdong province over the past years. Once imported directly from Ningbo, fruits can reach Hangzhou, Jinhua and Wenzhou. It is understood that Ningbo has applied to the State for importing 40 kinds of fruits from countries and regions with which Ningbo has signed bilateral agreement with. The first imported fruits are expected to arrive at Ningbo in May.
