The magnificent Hangzhou Bay Bridge is to be open to traffic on the coming May Day. The bridge is sure to bring a lot of conveniences to us. Drivers may just wonder how to get on the bridge via expressways.
After the opening of the Bridge, if you want to go to Jiaxing, Shanghai or Suzhou, you may have more alternative ways to go, either via the Shanghai-Ningbo Expressway or via the Hangzhou Bridge. We can see from the map that since the round-the-city expressway was opened last December, the expressways to Hangzhou, Jinhua and Taizhou are all linked together. If you get on the west part of the round-the-city expressway, you can go via different flyovers to the way leading to the Hangzhou Bay Bridge. By the route, the driveway to Shanghai and Jiangsu will be shortened greatly. And the toll for going on the bridge is about RMB 80 yuan.
The distance is going to be shortened by 120 kilometers, or about 50 minutes to 60 minutes, says a traffic policeman.
The traffic policeman warns that as the bridge is on the sea, it tends to be windier. The speed limit on the bridge is below 100 km per hour. Otherwise, the car will have a crosswind.
He also tells us that proper traffic control shall be exerted when the weather is bad. The bridge is two-way, with six lanes. And an emergency lane is set at each side.
