April 23 this year marks the 13th World Reading Day. But do you know there is a Wang Yinglin Reading Festival in Ningbo. The festival is named after Wang Yingling, who has been widely believed to be one of co-writers of Chinese classical Three-word Primer. This year’s Reading Festival will be open on May 6.
The theme for this year’s Reading Festival is Reading Brings You Happiness. Some activities will be held at the opening ceremony of the Reading Festival, including making a book wall and donating books to some countryside areas, communities, enterprises and army units. There will also be an activity in which 10 Reading Families will be chosen through public appraisal. It is said that a reading saloon will be organized and Book Purchasing Month will be initiated during the festival.
The most important activity during the festival is the publication ceremony of the new edition of Three-word Primer, which is based on the script of Zhao Nanxing (Ming Dynasty). It is said that 49 sentences, especially those are not in accordance with the history, are revised. The new edition of Three-word Primer also has an addition --- making the founding of People’s Republic of China as the end of Chinese history part.
