In the 216 trade unions of the companies in Xiaogang Beilun, 86 are chaired by migrant workers. Recently, the General Trade Union of Xiaogang is elected a national model trade union, the only one in Ningbo.

　　Xiaogang has about 800 enterprises, and about 50,000 migrant workers, covering 53.8% of the total population. In the past, chairmen of the trade unions used to be locals. These chairmen though fulfilled their duties, however, for the migrant workers, this was not enough. Recently, many enterprises let the workers decide to choose the chairmen for the trade unions, and more and more migrant workers have been elected their representatives.

　　The elected chairmen are mostly skilled workers working in the frontline, and it is easy for them to be accepted by the majority of the migrant workers.
