Juexi, in Xiangshan, has a coastline of 21 kilometers, and a sea area of 1,870.4 sq. kilometers of. The Jiushan Islands at Juexi is a provincial-level sea ecological reserve. In the past 20 years, the industrial sewage of many textile and chemical factories used to be directly discharged into the sea, and this seriously threatened the ecology of the sea. With this problem, Juexi was listed as a key area for environmental treatment and control.

　　In September 2005, a 25,000-ton/perday sewage treatment project, jointly invested by the community and 7 enterprises was put into operation. This sewage treatment plant makes centralized treatment of all the industrial and domestic sewage at JUexi and the sewage of printing factories at Xiangshan. The treated water now is up to the national 1st class standard. Soon, the 2nd phase of the project will be finished.
