China’s Ministry of Health announced that a total of 6,244 infants have now been confirmed sick after drinking contaminated milk powder. Three babies are now dead. The first two deaths occurred in northwest Gansu Province and the third occurred in southeastern Zhejiang Province. In Ningbo, several dozens of infants have now been confirmed sick.
A baby named Sun Wenkai has been fed Sanlu formula since his birth. To his mother’s surprise, Wenkai urinates little even though he likes to drink water. Wenkai’s mother takes him to the hospital. After several day’s treatment, Wenhai is now in normal health.
By Thursday of the week, Ningbo Third Hospital has received 9 infants suffering kidney failure. Usual treatment is offered to them because they are not so sick. Some parents are now worried about expenses. Mai Yifeng, vice principal of Third Hospital, tells us that infants with kidney failure will receive free treatment. It is said that measures have been taken to ensure infants with kidney failure timely treatment.
